Course Description

This micro-credential, aligned with standards set by the Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA), prepares individuals to build foundational skills in industrial electrical system installation and modern manufacturing environments. Students will develop skills to install, wire, test, and commission industrial electrical systems using components such as control cabinet enclosures, 3-phase AC motors, reversing magnetic motor starters with overloads, control relays, timer relays, pushbutton switches, selector switches, limit switches, pressure switches, indicators, electro-pneumatic solenoid valves, safety disconnect switches, and circuit protection devices.

Additional skills include adhering to electrical installation safety practices, using proper PPE, reading electrical wiring installation diagrams, sizing circuit protection, installing components on DIN rails and cabinet panels, installing and testing grounding systems, wiring motors for high and low voltage, preparing and terminating wire connections, and routing wire through raceways and conduits.

Level 1: Introduction & Foundation (Est. 14-18 hours)
This level is self-guided, online/asynchronous with Amatrol’s 3rd-party LMS and an in-person written exam. At the end of your introductory training, you will take an in-person exam, which will demonstrate your readiness for the next level. Successful completion earns you the SACA Silver Certification and a Level 1 Badge. Within the Level 1 course, you will register for the exam date (typically scheduled biweekly on Fridays) and location (Orono or Brunswick, ME) of your choice. Upcoming options include:

Level 2: Hands-on Training & Practice (5-Day class)
Here you participate in more rigorous, industry-aligned training through an in-person workshop and practice modules in Orono, ME, typically scheduled once per month. At the end of this training, you will complete an in-person practical assessment to demonstrate your readiness for the next level. Successful completion earns you the SACA Gold Certification and a Level 2 Badge.

Level 3: Experiential Learning and Application (Min. 80 hours)
In this final level, you put your new skills to work in a real-world setting, often right in your current job. Level 3 culminates with reflecting on your experience and having a supervisor or workplace mentor confirm your skill use and performance. Upon completing all three levels, you’ll be awarded a Level 3 Badge and a University of Maine System Micro-Credential for Electrical System Installation 1.
