This six-week course introduces participants to the rich labor history of Maine, situating local struggles within broader national movements. We will examine turning points such as the 1937 Lewiston-Auburn shoe strike, Bath Iron Works battles, the Jay Strike, and the wave of recent organizing efforts in health care and food service. The course is geared toward union members, community members, and students who want to connect the past to today’s challenges, deepen their understanding of labor’s role in Maine.
