In this course (consisting of videos and knowledge assessments) you will learn the essentials of food processing sanitation. Topics covered include an introduction to Microbiology, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures, Sanitizers and Cleaners, Sanitizer Application, Pest Management Programs, Record Keeping, and Implementing SSOPs in your facility/kitchen. This course is a pre-requisite for the Part 2 hands-on in-person sanitation training at the University of Maine. The Food Processing Sanitation Level 1 badge is awarded to learners who complete the course with a passing grade of 80% or above.
This course prepares the learner to be successful in hands-on sanitation training.
There are three levels to earning the micro-credential.
Level 1: An introduction to sanitation
Learners who receive an 80% or better on assessments will earn a Level 1 badge.
Level 2: Hands-on in person sanitation training
Learners will submit proof of successful completion of an approved hands-on sanitation course
Level 3: Completion of an approved internship, apprenticeship, or on-the-job training experience in sanitation within the food processing industry
Successfully completing the training experience will result in a Level 3 digital badge.
The three levels of badges earned result in a UMS micro-credential.
Learners who earn the micro-credential will be able to work professionally within the food processing industry.
